Appearance
The appearance of this full melt was nice. The melt had an amber color with a kind of translucent color too with all the heads evenly greased up mainly on one side of the jar with that sticky to scoop melt texture rather than holding that fresh “beach sand” consistency you usually see right after processing that looks almost like snow. To the naked eye, it appeared clean with just a bit of visible pepper specks but under my phone's macro lens I did notice quite a few more tiny pepper specs but nothing too serious. Those pepper like specs are most likely microscopic plant material, broken trichome stalks, or damaged heads. As mentioned, the melt arrived very greased, which usually happens when it’s exposed to warmer conditions for too long. Melt is best stored in freezer conditions around -10°F to 0°F to help preserve that sandy texture. This jar most likely greased up during transport, where maintaining those temps consistently can be difficult. That said, a little grease does not impact how it smokes.
The melt came in one of the clear, flat jars that West Coast Alchemy typically uses for their melt, featuring both a top sticker and a wraparound label. The jar had a strawberry theme with strawberries all over. The top sticker was covered in strawberries with the West Coast Alchemy logo centered in white, while the wraparound label followed the same theme and displayed the jar name “D•Lish” in white. It also included additional details such as the weight, micron range, collab brand, and noted that it was a single pull.
Aroma
The aroma on this melt started off pretty muted and wasn’t very loud at first, making the terp profile a little harder to pinpoint, something I’ve noticed happens pretty often with fresh press. As the jar cured and greased up though, the nose really started to open up. It developed a light earthy strawberry sweetness that reminded me more of fresh natural strawberries rather than an artificial candy strawberry smell, layered with a sweet cool minty edge that gave the profile a refreshing, cool terp finish.
Taste
The taste on this one is really nice and translates well from the nose. At lower temperatures around 480°F - 515°F, it delivers a decent lung expansion followed by a mouth coating earthy sweet strawberry taste along with a light cool minty taste coming out which brings everything together nicely. It's not at all like an artificial candy strawberry sweetness but more so along the likes of a freshly picked strawberry that has a cool herbal minty edge. The flavor also lingers on the palate then disappears slowly.
I also tested it at higher temperatures around 550°F - 600°F to see how it handled heat, and it held up well. It still tasted good and retained those same terps I enjoyed when dabbing it low temp.
Burn/Smoothness
This full melt burned nicely and left behind a bit of residue on the nail that needed a bit of a cleanup, especially at those higher temps but nothing crazy. There was no charring though, and it held a nice color while melting which was good. It also dabbed rather smooth overall with little to no harshness or discomfort but not quite at a pure clean level but right below.
Effects
The effects were also really nice. I found it delivering a nice potent head high that was heavy on the eyes and had relaxing body high that had me pretty couch locked for a second but still like functioning on my phone or something.
Overall
This was a really nice jar from West Coast Alchemy and Mendoja Farms. The reason I got this jar is because I wanted to try these genetics in melt or rosin form as I've heard many good things about the flower which has been cultivated by many with some notable brands being Doja and Preferred Gardens. Preferred Gardens also got best terps with it at zalympics so u was curious how they were in melt where I personally think terps are expressed best. I'm not 100% if Mendoja Farms genetics are the same ones bred by Fiya Farmer but I'm pretty sure it is based on the terp profile.
If you don’t know West Coast Alchemy, they’re a well known California hash brand recognized for doing a lot of collaborations with different well respected cultivators, like this one grown by Cutright Cannabis. They also offer some of their own single source jars alongside those collabs. They’re known for dropping a wide variety of flavors per release, similar to “Feel Good” style drops, often with well over 15 options, which sets them apart from most brands that typically release closer to six or so. They’re also one of the only brands consistently putting out quality melt at this kind of scale.
I would say this jar pretty much checked all the boxes. The looks, nose, taste, effects, and overall melt quality were all solid. Taking everything into account I’d place this melt in the mid 5 star range. It had only a small amount of pepper, melted down well, and left behind only light residue on the nail. However, I would not consider it true 6 star melt, which is extremely rare to come across. True 6 star melt should have little to no visible pepper like specs present, fully disappear on the nail with virtually no residue left behind, and dab exceptionally smooth and clean from start to finish.
This was another solid collab from West Coast Alchemy and Mendoja Farms. I wish I was able to get the jar in it’s freshest form with that beach sand look so I could see how it looks in a flag but that was really my only real critique. Other than that I really enjoyed the terp profile, it had the perfect balance of cool mint paired with a sweet earthy strawberry flavor without either one becoming too overpowering. I’d definitely grab this jar again, and next time I’d probably lean toward trying the cold cure version to see how the terps translate and express themselves in that form. Shoutout to West Coast Alchemy and Mendoja Farms!
