Appearance
The look on this jar was decent overall. Upon opening, it revealed a cream like beige tan color with a visually clean look to the naked eye. However, after using a macro lens on my phone, I did notice two small contaminants, which I removed before dabbing. I can share a video for reference if needed, aside from that, the rosin looked clean, and the consistency was solid with an easy to scoop texture. It was not overly wet or dry, sitting in that inbetween range.
The jar art was very cool and eye-catching. The graphic designer clearly put a lot of effort into this one. The top sticker had a textured finish and featured a wild, drooling melon with a strawberry smashed on top, set against a blue background with falling ice cubes. The artwork matched the name Strawberry Melons perfectly. The wraparound label was similar to another jar I had, featuring The Baked Taters logo along with two potatoes, which I assume represent her pressing and her husband washing, along with many other small details throughout the design. There was also a bottom sticker that included information such as the cross, micron range, and additional details. The jar presentation was excellent, unfortunately though the contamination held me back from rating the appearance higher, even though the rosin itself looked good otherwise.
Aroma
The nose on this one is really nice especially if you like mimosa. It opens up with a loud, refreshing strawberry sweetness paired with a tangy edge that comes across very juicy and vibrant. The nose is like a strawberry patch soaked in citrus. The Mimosa influence is especially strong on the nose, with that sweet citrus standing out more than the other notes.
Taste
The flavor on this one was enjoyable. It delivered a loud, mouth coating sweetness with a ripe strawberry taste up front, followed by a strong mimosa presence that brought in tangy, zesty, sweet citrus notes. The flavor itself was something I really liked, but it did come across as slightly harsh, which took away from the overall experience. It was not overwhelming, but it was definitely noticeable, and that harshness ultimately kept me from rating it higher despite how much I enjoyed the flavor profile.
Overall
This was my second time trying The Baked Taters, with Death by Boof being my first jar, which I enjoyed. Unfortunately, this one did not hit the same for me. I did speak with Baked Taters, and she mentioned that Strawberry Melons is one of their personal favorites and that it won the Dab A Doo Cup in Barcelona, Spain, judged by 170 judges. That was impressive to hear and definitely made me excited that I picked this one up. The main reason I chose it over the other options in the drop was because two friends recommended it after trying it in previous releases. I was originally leaning toward Popsicle Stix, which also sounded amazing, but decided to go with their suggestion.
If you don’t know much about The Baked Taters brand here’s a bit of information they started growing in 2004 in West Virginia before moving out to Michigan, they had always been growing for flower but it wasn’t till around three years ago or so where they began growing for resin to make hash after going to a hash bash and trying some smokey solventless and then decided that that’s what they wanna make. They started with Smokey Solventless washing their material before going single source. I found it cool that they have gained so much respect in the hash community after only roughly three years of producing it.
This jar did not check all the boxes for me. While the nose and the effects were solid, the appearance and taste were lacking in my opinion. I found two particulates in the jar upon opening, and flavor-wise it came across as slightly harsh. That said, the high was excellent with no complaints there. It delivered a relaxing body high that made it easy to unwind and just vibe. I found myself spending a lot of time playing PS5 with this one, as it provided a strong but manageable high that did not completely take me out.
Overall, I still enjoyed this jar despite the particulates and the slight harshness. The flavor, nose, and aroma were still enjoyable, even if it did not fully meet my expectations. I would not personally grab this jar again, but I am definitely looking forward to trying other flavors from The Baked Taters, especially since my experience with Death by Boof was a positive one. Shoutout to The Baked Taters, and I am excited to see what they put out next. 7
