Appearance
The appearance on this one was nice. It opened up to a pale beige color with a very wet and terpy look along with some terp bubbles present throughout the jar. The consistency was also great, when I dipped my dab tool into it, it had a nice wet gooey yet stable consistency that was really easy to work with. It was also stable and not drip off the tool goey which was nice.
The rosin came in an authentic black miron jar with the “m” stamped on the bottom. The jar didn’t have any art like most the jars I get do this is because Permacultivator does this for personal consumption mainly so there’s no need for marketing. It did have the strain abbreviation “11” written in sharpie on the top in gold but that’s it.
Aroma
The smell on this one is nice and pretty loud. When I first crack the jar I instantly get a straight lotion like scent with creamy floral notes, layered with some very subtle fruity sweetness in the background. The aroma honestly reminds me a lot of a scented body cream or rich lotion almost like coconut cream or shea butter. The fruity notes are very faint, the overall aroma is dominated by those creamy lotion like notes.
Taste
The taste on this one was nice and translated rather well from the nose.. I instantly got those lotion cream notes that come I got on the aroma with a bit of fruity sweetness but it comes off very subtle and layered in. It did leave behind a slightly odd aftertaste that wasn’t bad but I personally didn’t enjoy it too much, but the terp profile itself was still enjoyable and very unique.
Burn/Smoothness
The rosin burned nice on the nail leaving behind a light golden translucent color, and not a dark or murky color which would indicate there's quite a bit of contaminants. There was also no visible charring or black specs on the nail. As far as smoothness comes it was rather smooth for most of the dab but did become slightly harsh toward the end, nothing crazy but noticeable.
Effects
The effects are really nice and rather potent. I get hit with an instant head high that fades away leaving you with a relaxing body high that's nice.
Overall
This was a solid jar from Permacultivator and honestly the best jar I’ve tried from him so far. It felt like a noticeable step up compared to the jars I’ve had from him previously, and I could tell that almost immediately just from the looks, texture, and the use of an authentic miron jar which stored the rosin much better compared to the flat jars he used to package in. I asked him what he changed on this run and he mentioned different agitation times along with adjusting the amount of time in the water, which really just goes to show how many small factors can be tweaked and dialed in to make noticeable improvements in the final product. The strain Z3 x Honey Banana was originally bred by Chanectics and then hunted by Permacultivator from seed where he selected this #11 keeper pheno. This is usually the part where I talk about the reason why I grabbed the jar, but this one was actually given to me by Permacultivator so I could get some tasting notes and put together a review on it, so shoutout to him for trusting my palate and letting me try this one out.
Permacultivator is a cultivator and hashmaker out of Minnesota who makes rosin primarily for his own consumption and handles every part of the process himself with no team behind him.. He cultivates indoor, all organic, living soil, LED grown flower and has been cultivating since 2003 and washing hash since 2011. As you can tell there’s a lot of experience and care behind the work, especially knowing everything is being done hands on from cultivation all the way to the final jar of hash.
This jar checked a majority of the boxes for me, but it did fall short in a couple areas that held it back a bit overall. The looks, aroma, burn, and effects were all solid and made for a good experience, but where it mainly fell short for me was in the taste and smoothness. The flavor itself was nice and unique, but it had a slightly weird aftertaste that I personally didn’t enjoy too much. It also became a bit harsh toward the end of the dab and had me coughing more than usual. Aside from those two critiques, everything else about the jar was solid and it still ended up being a rather enjoyable experience overall.
The jar was solid overall and had a really unique terp profile that I honestly haven’t come across before with that creamy lotion type vibe. I mentioned to Permacultivator that if you left this jar around the house someone might pick it up and mistake it for a body cream of some sorts. While I did enjoy the jar and can appreciate how unique it was, I probably wouldn’t run it back personally since I wasn’t the biggest fan of that lotion heavy flavor profile. It was solid hash no doubt and I can still appreciate it for being something different just not for me really. Shoutout to Permacultivator!
